Our Veterinary Team

Meet the compassionate veterinarians and support team of Clear Lake Veterinary Service! We work together to put your pet’s health first.

Get to Know What Makes Our Clinic So Wonderful

Clear Lake Veterinary Service is located in one of the village’s oldest commercial buildings. Built in 1899 as a blacksmith shop, it was eventually transformed into a veterinary hospital in 1989. A modern examination room, laboratory, and surgical suite are included within the 16-inch stone walls. Visitors admire the original wooden beams and iron rings set in the stone. In 2004 an addition was finished, providing much-needed kennel space and radiology facilities. We are proud of this landmark building and encourage you to come for a tour!

Dr. Nancy Anderholm Engel

Veterinarian / Owner

Dr. Engel's Bio

Dr. Engel grew up in Rochester, Minnesota, and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Minnesota in 1981. She has enjoyed living and practicing veterinary medicine in Clear Lake since 1982. Besides sharing her time with her horse, Bud, and cats, Rocco, JimmySteve, Tweek, and Pants, Dr. Engel enjoys rehabbing and camping with her vintage trailers and spoiling her grandchildren.

Marcy Calkins

Veterinary Technician

Marcy's Bio

Marcy graduated from Argosy University and is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). With her years of experience and technical skills, she is highly qualified to provide nursing care and treatments for your pet, perform laboratory procedures, and administer / monitor anesthetics. She is a terrific source of information for pet owners on everything from proper nutrition to housebreaking that new puppy.

Kristi Hart

Veterinary Technician

Kristi's Bio

Kristi is our newest addition, although she is not new to the veterinary profession. She is also a licensed, Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) with several years of experience. Along with excellent technical skills, she brings the “cheerful” every day along with vast amounts of compassion for our clients and their pets.

Connie Young

Veterinary Assistant

Connie's Bio

Connie is our veterinary assistant, and you’ll often hear her friendly voice on the phone or see her giving love to your new puppy. Living with two dogs and two cats of her own, Connie has lots of insight into the pet-owning experience.

Maddie

Kennel Assistant

Maddie's Bio

Doing most of the dirty work in the clinic is Maddie, a student at Clear Lake High School. She willingly and (hopefully) happily cleans up after Dr. Engel each day and can occasionally be caught talking to and petting hospitalized patients. Students employed at the clinic have in the past gone on to careers in veterinary medicine (despite all of this dirty work), and we enjoy encouraging them!
